High-strength hex bolts, from M16 to M72
The hex head bolt is the basic part of any industrial bolted joint. We work with coarse metric threads, from M16 to M72, which is the core of our catalogue, in the two standards that cover almost every order: DIN 931 and DIN 933.
The difference between them is the thread. DIN 931 (ISO 4014) has a partial thread and leaves a plain shank under the head; DIN 933 (ISO 4017) is threaded along the whole length. If the joint works in shear on the shank, order the part thread; if it is tightened onto a thread or with a nut and no plain shank, order the full thread.
| DIN 931 | DIN 933 | |
|---|---|---|
| ISO equivalent | ISO 4014 | ISO 4017 |
| Thread | Partial | Full |
| Thread length | b = 2d+6 up to 125 mm | Full length |
| Property classes | 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 | 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 |
| Nut | DIN 934 of the same class | DIN 934 of the same class |
Property classes: 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9
8.8 is the reference property class in large sizes. 10.9 is the usual one in calculated joints, and 12.9 in sizes such as M42 or M56 is made-to-order material with long lead times. Each property class goes with its nut: class 8 for 8.8, class 10 for 10.9 and class 12 for 12.9.
Finishes
We supply black, zinc plated, hot-dip galvanised and Geomet-type zinc flake. For outdoor use the choice is usually between hot-dip galvanising and zinc flake; in 10.9 and 12.9 the risk of hydrogen embrittlement should be reviewed before choosing.
What to state when ordering
